Dr Marengoni is a medical doctor, specialized in Geriatrics, with a PhD in Geriatric Epidemiology. She is currently employed as Associate Professor at the University of Brescia, Italy. She works as a geriatrician in the Geriatric Unit of one of the main hospitals in Northern Italy.
Her major research field is chronicity in the elderly. Specifically, she is involved in the following research lines:
- Clusters of diseases and multimorbidity;
- Co-morbidities and dementia progression;
- Polypharmacy, drug prescription appropriateness, and adherence.
She is the Principal Investigator of the project ‘ANZIANI IN-RETE’, Aging, health and social NETWORK in elderly residents in Brescia’. The study aims to investigate the social bases of longevity, health and disease in a population of elderly residents in Brescia, Italy. Main objectives: 1. Mapping the social network of the elderly residents in Brescia 2. Correlate the social network with the state of global health; 3. Evaluate the impact of the social network on the cognitive and affective status changes between baseline and follow-up; 4. Derive indications of public policy for the improvement of the quality of the social networks of the elderly.
She is Academic Editor of Plos One (2014-on) and Associated Editor of Journal of Comorbidity (2011-on). She is reviewer for several ISI journals including: The Lancet, Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), and British Medical Journal. Since 2008 she is member of the Steering Committee of the national multicenter study RE.PO.SI (Register Polypharmacy Italian Society of Internal Medicine).
